The world's smallholder farmers produce around a third of the world's food however, tend to be the most vulnerable to food security and climate change issues. In Egypt, WFP collaborates with the Ministry of agriculture and land reclamation to provide support to vulnerable smallholder farmer and Bedouin communities to improve their resilience through technology transfer, market-access training, diversification of livelihoods, and the creation and rehabilitation of assets.

Specific key activities include consolidating fragmented lands, introducing solar energy and low-cost water-saving irrigation, reducing losses in cases of foreseen extreme weather events, introducing improved varieties of common crops and non-traditional crops, and diversification of livelihoods through agro-processing and animal revolving loans.
