Technical and Vocational Training
Contributing to national efforts towards youth empowerment and the fight against irregular migration, WFP and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) launched a partnership towards promoting technical and vocational education and training (TVET) among youth and strengthening national TVET systems to bridge the gap between employment market needs and youths’ qualifications.
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency
It focuses on micro, small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurship. The Enterprise Development Agency has contributed to alleviating poverty and improving the living standards of low-income families and communities by supporting micro, small and medium enterprises in all the Egyptian governorates to establish micro-income-generating activities in agriculture, craftsmanship and commerce.
The Presidential Program to Qualify Youth for Leadership
In 2015, the President H.E. Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, launched "The Presidential Program for Qualifying Youth for Leadership" to train youth in the political, administrative, and community work domains. The program entails informing the youth about the latest theories on management, scientific and practical planning. Graduates of the program obtain a professional academic certificate.
Training of Trainers
WFP, the Ministry of Social Solidarity (MOSS), and National Council for Women (NCW) implemented a women’s economic empowerment programme. WFP delivered training of trainers on micro-enterprise management, financial management, accounting, and digital marketing to 50 local officials of partner agencies. These trainings were then cascaded to over 2,200 women from villages under the 'Decent Life' initiative across seven of the poorest governorates. Of these trained women, 500 women received vocational trainings in their areas of interest.
Unconditional Cash Based Transfers (CBT)
As part of the ‘First 1,000 days’ national nutrition programme and WFP’s COVID-19 emergency response, WFP in collaboration with MOSS provided cash top-ups to about 25,000 vulnerable Egyptian children under two years of age registered under the national social protection programme, ‘Takaful and Karama’. The Cash Based Transfers provided an alternative for the suspended national school feeding programme.
Virtual visit
The Minister of Education and WFP Egypt Country Director conducted a first-of-its-kind virtual visit to 8 WFP-supported community schools across 4 governorates. The Minister directly engaged with students and their teachers via webcam, discussing their educational aspirations and responding to their questions and requests.
